Distinctive 1995 Brooklyn Museum Chancay Cat brooch, marked © TBM on the reverse. The highly stylized cat is rendered in a polished silver-tone metal with an openwork spotted body, curled tail, geometric facial details and distinctive feet. The design was inspired by the artistic traditions of the Chancay culture of pre-Columbian Peru. The Brooklyn Museum holds an extensive collection of Chancay material, including textiles, ceramics and other objects from Peru’s central coast. A wonderful piece of 1990s museum jewelry with appeal to collectors of artistically inspired jewelry, museum gift-shop jewelry, cats and pre-Columbian/Andean design. Marked © TBM; dated 1995; 2.5” long; weight 5.44 grams; silver-tone metal; dimensional/openwork design; traditional pin stem with safety clasp. There is visible surface scratching consistent with age and wear, particularly noticeable under magnification/flash. Please review photographs for condition.
