Pair of heavy vintage wooden bookends carved in relief with Shakespeare’s Birthplace, Stratford-on-Avon, the historic Henley Street house traditionally identified as William Shakespeare’s birthplace and childhood home. The house dates principally from the late 15th and 16th centuries and was purchased for preservation in 1847; it later became the centerpiece of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. These bookends belong to the long tradition of Shakespeare pilgrimage and Stratford souvenir objects depicting the Birthplace. The Folger Shakespeare Library, for example, catalogs other English souvenir objects specifically depicting Shakespeare’s Birthplace. Condition as shown.
