Product Details

A treasure from one of the great Staffordshire houses, and one of the few Davenport patterns ever given a name. SPECS: Octagonal ironstone platter, approx 11 1/4 in x 9 1/4 in, blue transferware, canted corners. Backstamp: crown over garter oval reading IRONSTONE / FRIBURG / DAVENPORT. Circa 1845 to 1870 - no country of origin places it before 1891, and the Davenport works closed forever in 1887. HISTORY: John Davenport founded his Longport pottery in 1794; the Prince of Wales, later George IV, ordered a dinner service in 1806. Most Davenport patterns were sold by number alone, Friburg is one of the rare named few. The scene is Fribourg, Switzerland.
