Columbia - the old poetic name for America, stamped by an English factory on a platter built for an American sideboard. SPECS: Large octagonal platter, approx 14 in x 11 in, blue transferware on Adams ironstone, canted corners. Backstamp: scroll cartouche reading COLUMBIA over W. ADAMS & SONS, with a lidded classical urn and flower sprays. Circa 1830 to 1860, pre-1891 by the mark.
