Product Details

SPECS: Approx. 6 in. diameter saucer Backstamp reads TONQUIN by Franciscan, MADE IN STAFFORDSHIRE ENGLAND, HAND ENGRAVED PATTERN, PERMANENT UNDERGLAZE COLOURS, ACID AND DETERGENT PROOF. HISTORY: Tonquin has one of the longer lives in English transferware. The pattern began with John Carr and Company in the later 19th century as a flow blue design, was picked up and reworked as a printed romantic chinoiserie scene, and ran through a string of Staffordshire houses across the next hundred years. Franciscan Tonquin Brown ran roughly 1975 to 1985 and is now discontinued, with most forms showing out of stock at the major replacement services. HAND ENGRAVED PATTERN on the backstamp is not marketing filler, it means a copper plate was cut by hand for this print. CONDITION: Bright glossy glaze, deep saturated brown with no fading or plate loss, backstamp crisp and fully legible. No crazing observed. | Stay crazed, darlings.
