A sepia castle floating in the middle of a plate that is not a plate; this is glass, poured ivory-opaque and molded with a pleated piecrust rim that throws light like folded linen. SPECS: Approx. 9 3/4 in. dinner plate; MacBeth-Evans Chinex opaque ivory Depression glass, NOT ceramic; brown decal-printed castle and parkland scene at center; molded reeded rim with scalloped piecrust edge; reverse shows concentric mold rings and no maker mark, which is correct for the ware. HISTORY: Chinex Classic was made by the MacBeth-Evans Glass Company from roughly 1938 to 1944, by which point the firm had already been bought by Corning.
