You are purchasing this beautiful, authentic piece of early Edwardian English stoneware plate / a Royal Doulton "Ships" Series Ware decorative display plate measuring: 10.5" diameter and pattern # D2872. Verified on the back impressed in clay "6-08" / June 1908. This handpainted plate features ships or sailboats on the water with a wide dark brown band around the rim and a beige background. Stamped on the back is the original Royal Dalton "lion-on-crown" printed hallmark. The crown and lion was originally introduced in 1902 to celebrate King Edward VII granting Royal Warrant to the company, which officially allowed them to add Royal to their name. This rare find of a collector's plate shows natural age related crazing in the glaze and some staining. For being 118 years old, this plate is in beautiful condition with no chips or cracks.
