So apparently everyone’s a poet now, so before the Cresgems review section needs its own literary prize:
There once was a coin seller called Cres, Whose parcels caused financial distress, With medals galore,
I can’t help but buy more, And my bank balance gets rather less.
Anyway, Latvian & Russian medals made a welcome return, alongside rifle medals, obscure tokens & other bits of metal that I had no intention of collecting until Cres put them on screen.
I used to leave reviews to help other buyers. But I now appear to be writing weekly instalments of a cautionary tale about poor financial decisions.
Cresgems still has the best show on Whatnot, although the reviews are now giving it a serious run for its money. Excellent seller who’s hugely knowledgeable running excellent auctions and very welcoming. High quality items too I can’t praise him highly enough! As if Saturday’s Banker Show wasn’t already doing enough financial damage, Cres decided Friday night required an additional show devoted entirely to tokens.
On paper, a token-only show sounded relatively harmless. In reality it was several hours of increasingly obscure bits of metal from businesses, clubs and places I’d never heard of — many of which I apparently now needed to own.
The worrying part is how quickly “random tokens” have gone from occasional curiosities to what appears to be yet another recognised branch of my collection.
Cres has therefore achieved something quite impressive: rather than helping bring some direction to my collecting, he’s simply created another direction for it to wander off in.
Excellent show, great banter and a superb selection of unusual stuff as always.
I’m starting to think Cres doesn’t actually sell collectables — he manufactures new collecting habits and then he eagerly supplies the stock to his unsuspecting victims. /users%2F11145007%2Fstore%2F7c005d6a-5a12-433f-a006-f4a9823a998c.jpeg)
