“giernan” is a very old word for a feeling of yearning or desire - something akin to nostalgia. My personal nostalgia is for old glass, clocks, and music boxes - and their blend of science, art, and function. I am the daughter of a first generation immigrant and a Daughter of the American Revolution. Glass was our first industry and it tells the story of our country itself. We used innovation, inventiveness, and tenacity to blend knowledge from many countries into a practical approach to an art form that used to be restricted to the very wealthy. In doing so we created something new and changed the rest of the world. Not unlike us, glass is beautiful, surprising, strong, fragile, and enduring all at once. But mostly - beautiful!!
