I thought I was making smart purchases—picking up some future Hall of Famers, a few underrated rookies, and a couple of nostalgia hits from my childhood. Fast forward a week, and half of these guys are either injured, benched, or suddenly forgot how to play their sport.
One of my “sleeper picks” must have taken “sleeper” too literally because he’s been invisible on the field. Another card I bought? Turns out it was a great deal because the guy retired the next day. And don’t even get me started on the card I overpaid for—its value dropped faster than my hopes of ever affording a PSA 10 Jordan rookie.
But hey, that’s the thrill of collecting! One day you’re a genius, the next you’re a cautionary tale. Will I keep buying more? Absolutely. Will I learn my lesson? Not a chance.
