Antique hand-painted porcelain portrait brooch, oval form, depicting a young woman or gypsy boy in period dress with finely rendered facial features, soft coloration, and delicate enamel work. The portrait is painted directly on porcelain and set into a rope-twist metal mount, consistent with late 19th–early 20th century portrait jewelry. The brooch was sold to me as gold filled, which aligns with the construction and appearance of the mount. The pin assembly includes a later rollover safety clasp, which was commonly added to earlier brooches in the early-to-mid 20th century to improve wearability and security. This type of clasp replacement is very common on genuine antique brooches and does not detract from the authenticity of the piece. The porcelain plaque remains in good antique condition, with age-appropriate wear. The front portrait displays beautifully and retains strong visual presence. These portrait brooches were popular in the Victorian and Edwardian periods.
