1796 first illustrated edition of Peter Beckford’s Thoughts Upon Hare and Fox Hunting, a classic 18th-century sporting work written as letters on kennels, hounds, huntsmen, whippers-in, and celebrated dog kennels of the kingdom. This edition is especially desirable for its 20 engraved plates, all present, including the frontispiece and hunting scenes. Handsome full leather binding with elaborate gilt borders and sporting-themed gilt spine decoration. Includes the armorial bookplate of Pauncefort Duncombe of Brickhill Manor, Bucks. Spine has been beautifully and professionally restored at some point, retaining and reattaching the original gilt-decorated spine leather. General rubbing, scuffing, and edge wear to leather, but a beautifully restored and complete copy of an important early illustrated hunting title.
