Early Charles L. Webster edition of Mark Twain’s American masterpiece, published only three years after the first U.S. edition. Complete with the original series of 174 illustrations by E. W. Kemble and bound in the publisher’s striking green pictorial cloth with gilt and black decoration. This is an early printing from Twain’s own publishing firm, Charles L. Webster & Company—the house that originally introduced Huckleberry Finn to American readers in 1885. The title page is dated 1888; the copyright page retains the original 1884 Samuel L. Clemens copyright. Blind-embossed former ownership stamp reading “Bolles, Livonia, N.Y.” on the title page and adjacent leaf. A beautiful, highly displayable 19th-century edition of one of the foundational works of American literature. Very good condition as shown.
