Product Details

Striking antique 1/6 plate cased photograph, circa 1850s–early 1860s. Portrait of an absolute stud of a gentleman with thick beard, dramatic mutton-chop sideburns and swept-back hair, wearing a dark coat over a plaid/tartan vest with a visible watch chain and key fob. A characterful, high-contrast image with excellent clarity — far more memorable than the typical plain studio bust portrait. Set behind a brass mat w/ oval opening and brass preserver frame, with cover glass intact. Comes in the surviving half of its original embossed case with deep floral and scrollwork relief. Cased image (ambrotype/tintype), 1/6 plate Approx. 2.75 x 3.25 in (plate); case slightly larger Condition: Good antique condition for its age (150+ years old). PLEASE NOTE: only the bottom half of the original case survives — the top/lid is missing and the case shows wear, separation, and losses as pictured. Please review photos. Sold as is.
