Product Details

White on white, and all the better for it. A crisp band of molded fluting rings the well, with a soft embossed foliate ground beyond - the kind of quiet ironstone plate that makes every colored piece stacked on it look better. SPECS: White ironstone, approx 9 in diameter, molded fluted and embossed rim. No transfer decoration; the pattern is relief-molded. Maker: Wm Adams & Sons, England (royal arms backstamp confirmed, reading Real English Ironstone). Date: c.1950-1962. HISTORY: The Adams family has potted at Tunstall in Staffordshire since the 1600s, and the firm dates formally to 1769. The printed Wm Adams & Sons England mark seen here was introduced in 1950 and used until 1962, when the Est. 1657 mark replaced it. White ironstone was the workhorse of the English and American table for a century, prized for weight, whiteness, and the way it takes light across a molded surface.
