Exceptional 1930s Topázio Portugal sterling silver gilt filigree brooch depicting a Portuguese woman dressed in elaborate traditional folk costume. Beautifully constructed in sterling silver with a gold-gilt finish, this striking figural brooch showcases the intricate openwork filigree for which Portuguese jewelry is renowned. Her dramatic full skirt is filled with delicate scrolling wirework and accented with vibrant multicolor enamel in cobalt blue, turquoise, green, red, yellow and cream. The dimensional figure is wonderfully detailed from her ornate headdress and jewelry to her puffed sleeves, tiny hands, elaborate skirt and pointed shoes. The extensive filigree work is equally impressive from the reverse and demonstrates the craftsmanship involved in creating these early Topázio pieces.
