Product Details

An island on real place on Lake Maggiore, on an octagonal platter nearly two centuries old. SPECS: Octagonal stone china platter, approx 11 1/2 in x 9 1/4 in, light blue transferware, canted corners. Backstamp: lion and Britannia flanking a STONE CHINA garter with ISOLA BELLA centered, W. ADAMS & SONS on the banner. Circa 1830 to 1860, pre-1891 by the mark. HISTORY: The Adams family has potted in Staffordshire since the 1650s, and this is the generation collectors chase - the named Continental patterns. Isola Bella is the Borromean island Count Borromeo spent decades transforming into a baroque terraced garden, named for his wife Isabella. | CONDITION: Crisp transfer with strong contrast and a clean bright well. Light crazing. Scattered kiln specks original to manufacture. Amber toning at the reverse rim edge and old label residue on the back - disclosed plainly.
