Pair of antique and vintage J.G. Dill’s Best Sliced tobacco tins from Richmond, Virginia. The smaller early tin features ornate black graphics, the Dill’s Best woman trademark, “Sliced Cut Plug” wording and remnants of its original federal tax stamp. The larger yellow tin is marked J.G. Dill Co. and United States Tobacco Co., Successor, with a colorful central trademark. Both are empty hinged metal pocket tins. Approximate sizes are 4 x 3 inches and 3.75 x 2.25 inches. Attractive examples of American tobacco advertising and Richmond manufacturing history. Both tins are in vintage used condition. The earlier cut-plug tin has extensive finish loss, scratches, staining, oxidation, darkening, worn edges and substantial deterioration or loss to the paper tax labels. Its interior shows heavy rubbing and dark residue. The later yellow tin has scattered scratches, scuffs, small paint losses, edge wear and minor dents, but retains bright color and clear graphics.
