Lusterware porcelain achieved immense popularity across Europe during the early to mid-20th century, particularly through the output of factories in Germany, Bavaria, and Czechoslovakia. These services were typically finished with a metallic glaze that produced an iridescent, pearl-like sheen when catching the light, designed to mimic more costly mother-of-pearl effects. Hand-applied heavy gold gilding and transfer-printed floral motifs, such as pink roses, were standard decorative elements aimed at the burgeoning middle-class market for home entertaining. Many of these factories exported extensively to international markets, where such opulent tea and coffee services symbolized domestic refinement and hospitality.
