A fantastic condition all original M1858 smoothside canteen used during the American Civil War (1861-1865). This style was used by both Union and Confederate troops throughout the war. This amazing artifact still has the original canvas wrapping, as well as a large section of the original strap. The canvas has a few holes and small missing sections, but is largely intact. The tin canteen itself is in perfect condition except for a small chip in the pewter spout, as shown in the photos. Overall an amazing 160+ year old piece of Civil War history!
