Pre-Columbian Coclé Polychrome Animal-Effigy Vessel Panama, Zahina Phase, ca. 200-400 AD Height: 5 3/4 in. | Diameter: 6 3/4 in. Finely modeled Coclé polychrome effigy vessel depicting a stylized anthropo-zoomorphic figure. The cream-slipped face features large circular eyes, a raised nose, and red and black painted details. The globular body is decorated with bold black scrolls and curvilinear motifs over a rich red slip, while the rear handle is characteristic of early Coclé ceremonial vessels. A beautiful example of Zahina Phase pottery produced for elite ceremonial use, displaying strong graphic design and exceptional craftsmanship. Condition: Restored from multiple fragments with professional stabilization and painted touch-ups. Provenance: Ex Private Austin, Texas collection, acquired through family descent. Originally collected in the 1960s.
