This charming little locomotive brings back the tradition of baby gifts meant to be kept — a shiny silver bank for collecting first coins, tucked onto a nursery shelf and eventually packed away with childhood treasures. - Beyond its original use as a coin bank, this little locomotive makes a wonderful shelf sitter. Its substantial one-pound weight, aged silverplate finish and detailed old-fashioned engine design give it the look of a small decorative sculpture — perfect tucked among vintage books, on an office shelf, or mixed into a collected vignette. Made by International Silver Company, this substantial silver-plated locomotive bank dates to 1992. The dimensional design is wonderfully detailed, with large driving wheels, connecting rods, smokestack, boiler, cowcatcher and an old-fashioned engineer's cab. The coin slot is discreetly incorporated into the top of the cab, while the original turning closure remains on the underside for retrieving coins. The top has been subtly monogrammed, a sweet reminder that this was once someone's special keepsake. Rather than detracting from the piece, I think it adds to its history and character. It has a surprisingly substantial feel in the hand, weighing approximately 1 pound.
