A nearly century-old bilingual Jewish scripture volume, The Pentateuch with Haftaroth and Five Megiloth, published by Hebrew Publishing Co. of New York in 1928. The Hebrew and English text appears side by side throughout, with the English translation revised by noted Jewish scholar and lexicographer Alexander Harkavy. M. Nathanson arranged the musical notes. The volume includes the Five Books of Moses, Haftaroth and the Five Megillot, along with additional liturgical and musical material. This copy also retains an original presentation bookplate reading: “Presented to Temple Israel by Samuel and Mary Pliskin in honour of their parents Abraham and Sonia Pliskin and Nick and Mary Sargo.” That presentation history gives the book a tangible connection to Jewish congregational and family life in America. Dark blue hardcover with gilt spine lettering and Star of David decoration. The pages show expected age toning and the cover has visible shelf wear, rubbing, and scuffing consistent with age and use.
