Product Details
Pre-Columbian Maya slateware pottery vessel, Yucatán, Mexico, ca. 600–900 CE. Fine cylindrical pottery vessel featuring a gently flaring rim and an incised geometric band encircling the upper register, characteristic of ancient Maya slateware traditions from the Yucatán region. The surface retains traces of red cinnabar pigment, a material closely associated with elite Maya ceremonial and funerary practices. The vessel exhibits substantial mineral deposits, burial encrustation, and ancient surface wear consistent with long-term age and excavation. Its refined proportions and restrained elegance reflect the sophisticated ceramic traditions of the Late Classic Maya period. An attractive and authentic example of Maya slateware with strong display presence. Provenance: Ex Sondra Dutra collection, Oregon; Ex Private Oregon collection.
