Pre-Columbian Moche Square Stirrup Vessel Peru, ca. 100-800 CE 7 1/4 x 5 3/4 x 3 in. Rare Moche pottery stirrup vessel featuring an unusual square-bodied form surmounted by a finely modeled anthropomorphic head wearing a crescent-shaped headdress. The figure displays large ear ornaments, painted facial markings, and a solemn expression. The vessel is decorated with cream and reddish-brown geometric and swirling designs. Square-form stirrup vessels are far less common than the typical globular examples, making this a highly desirable form. Retains strong original painted decoration, attractive burial deposits, and ancient surface patina. Condition: Left side restored and professionally repainted, likely to stabilize ancient salt deterioration. Additional restoration to a small section of the neck and upper shoulder.
