Product Details

Pre-Columbian Jalisco Pottery Male & Female Couple Mexico, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE-250 CE Exceptional matched pair of hollow Jalisco pottery figures depicting a seated male and female, each with expressive facial features and classic West Mexican shaft tomb styling. The female retains cream-painted decoration, while the male preserves red and cream pigments, applied shoulder ornaments, and a detailed headdress. Both exhibit attractive mineral deposits and burial encrustation from centuries of interment. Paired figures like these are associated with funerary offerings symbolizing ancestry, fertility, lineage, and the afterlife. A scarce opportunity to acquire an original matched couple. Custom display stand included. Measurements: Male 6 5/8 in.; Female 6 1/8 in. Provenance: Ex Kevin Martin Collection, Florida.
