Product Details

Here’s a sharp 1865 Two-Cent Piece struck in the year the Civil War ended. It retains strong shield lines, crisp arrow and leaf detail, a bold wreath and a fully readable motto. This is the Plain 5 variety, identified by the straight top bar of the 5. My photo-based estimate is approximately AU55 Details. The coin was harshly cleaned or polished in the past, leaving numerous fine hairlines and unnaturally bright golden-brown surfaces. It is not represented as an original-surface or straight-grade coin. Struck in Philadelphia from bronze—95% copper with 5% tin and zinc—with a mintage of 13,640,000. The two-cent type was the first U.S. coin design to carry “IN GOD WE TRUST,” giving it a special place in American coinage history. Exact coin pictured—please review all photos.
