Product Details

Gorgeous late 1940s–early 1950s scatter pin featuring a large domed opal-effect glass cabochon glowing with fiery orange, gold, green and blue flashes. The dramatic center is surrounded by deep garnet-red faceted rhinestones and graduated faux pearls in an ornate dimensional gold-tone setting. The reverse construction and mid-century safety-style pin clasp help place this piece in the post-WWII period, approximately 1945–1955, with circa 1950 being the strongest estimate. Scatter pins became fashionable during this era and were worn individually or grouped across dresses, sweaters, coats and hats. The oversized opal glass is the star of the piece. Its suspended multicolor fire was created to evoke precious opal and gives the brooch remarkable depth and movement as the lighting changes.
